GLOBAL WARMING MAKES AN APPEARANCE AGAIN

It seems that as soon as the New Year is rung in, global scientists make the dramatic announcement that the previous year was a record hot year. They did it in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, 2007, 2006, 2005,… you get the idea. Therefore, it was no surprise that it happened again in 2012. According to the government, the past year smashed the previous record for the warmest year. The average temperature for 2012 was 55.3 degrees, 3.2 degrees above the 20th-century average. Needless to say, the media started its global warming spin. They even suggested that Obama institute more stringent regulations in place to stoop warming.

The problem is that global warming has stopped. The United Kingdom's National Weather Service quietly released a report in October conceding that so-called "global warming" actually stopped more than 15 years ago. According to them there has been no noticeable increase in global temperatures since early 1997. The alleged warming trend supposedly observed from 1980 to 1996 was about as long as the current "plateau" period, the paper reported. Prior to that, climate scientists admit, global temperatures had been stable or dropping for decades, a fact that prompted previous generations of climate alarmists to sound the alarm about the supposed dangers of man-made "global cooling."
So, why do government agencies stillinsist that things are warming up? Some say that the urbanization of the areas around weather stations is the culprit. However, there may be another reason - the greater the evidence of global warming, the more money you can get in your budget.

Take the case of Death Valley and NASA. One of the problems for global warming believers is that all the record high temperatures were recorded decades ago. The all time record high was at Al Azizya, Libya in 1922, when the mercury hit 136 degrees Fahrenheit. In North America, it was set in 1913 at Furnace Creek, Death Valley (134 F).

Obviously, if there are no new record high temperatures, it is difficult to prove global warming. In fact, it gets more difficult because temperature data from Furnace Creek shows no overall warming at Death Valley since the 1950s. Surely, if the world were getting warmer, it would make sense that records at Death Valley should be falling like hogs on a skating rink.

Here is where NASA stepped in. In an attempt to study the type of organisms that might live on Mars, a NASA team went to Death Valley to set up a new weather station at Badwater, Death Valley.
For those of you who have installed outside thermometers at home, you know that where you set the sensor is important and if you aren't careful, you will get false readings. You always avoid putting it in the sun or placing it near large objects that radiate heat and give false high temperatures. That is why the Furnace Creek instruments were placed far from any objects that would collect and radiate heat.
NASA, however, had no interest in getting accurate information, because accurate, scientifically acquired, low temperatures meant no additional funding for NASA to study global warming. In fact, the Ames Research Center noted that the Badwater station was installed, "to precisely measure the temperature changes there and monitor global warming --which is much more noticeable in an extremely hot environment like Death Valley."

The instrument station is located in a small hollow that leaves it fully exposed to the afternoon summer sun, but isolates it from any wind, which would moderate temperatures by creating turbulence. Behind the station is a 500-foot cliff that will absorb and reflect the summer sun. On the west of the station is a large flat, white saltpan that will reflect the sun's energy onto the cliff and weather station. In other words, Badwater is the ideal natural furnace to provide "record breaking temperatures." In fact, a NASA document from the Goddard Space Flight Center that discusses the factors necessary for record high temperatures says, "If all the above conditions are met, the temperature at Death Valley or some other forsaken spot on the Earth's surface could climb to the 140 degree mark."

NASA has already used the higher temperatures at Badwater to skew the record. Although the Furnace Creek temperatures have remained stable, NASA has blended the temperatures of the two stations to "prove" that Death Valley has grown hotter. A plaque at the Badwater station shows the temperatures climbing in Death Valley and says, "Global mean temperature changes over the past century show an increase of 0.5 C per century. Annual average temperature at Death Valley is more variable and shows a steeper increase over the same period." The plaque also implies that the warmest temperature in history was recorded at that station in 1998. It wasn't either the hottest temperature in Death Valley (that 1913 record still stands), nor is it the world record.

So, was 2012 the hottest year on record? Yes, if you use the skewed temperature data from agencies like NASA. However, the overall facts, as proved by the United Kingdom's National Weather Service prove what we all know - the only heat coming from global warming is coming from its proponents, not scientific data. Anyone want to bet that government scientists will say 2013 was a record hot year too? I didn't think so.
