Headlining News
December 2011 - January 2012

Rugged Computers And High Tech Devices Popular In Mining Industry - Anyone who has spilled a cup of coffee on their computer keyboard or tripped over the power cord of their notebook computer knows how fragile the normal business computer is.  Yet, thanks to the technology of ruggedizing computers and other high tech devices, portable computers are now out on the frontiers of the mining industry.

American Industry A Bigger Investor In Low Carbon Energy Than The Federal Government - Although the federal government and Obama like to showcase their investments in eliminating greenhouse gases and developing low carbon emitting energy, the evidence shows that their talk is just that – just hot air.  The government is just a bit player in the field.

Letting Nature Clean Up Contaminated Sites - There was a time when the only way to clean up contaminated soil was to dig it up and send it to a toxic waste dump, where it was isolated from the groundwater with geomembranes. Today, however, more and more contaminated soil is being treated on site with a technique called Phytoremediation.  Phytoremediation uses plants to clean up contaminated soil.

Rare Earth Elements, Alaska, China, And Us:  Closer Look At The Growing Picture
- From food freezers to intricate auto power parts, from laptops to explosively  evolving cell phone technology, rare earth elements have most rightfully earned the designation “Secret Ingredients of Everything,” as National Geographic (June, 2011) dubbed them.

Integrated Operation Key To Newmont Nevada Operations - Nevada may be one of the largest gold producing regions in the world, but that doesn’t make gold mining any easier.  There are hundreds of different types of gold ore in the state, each with a different “ideal” way to process it for the maximum recovery rate.  The goal for any gold mine in the state is to obtain the best recovery rate at the lowest cash price per ounce.

What Will 2012 Bring To Resource Stock Investors ? – I Wish I Knew - As 2011 comes to an end we have all encountered speed bumps ranging from wars in distant lands and economic uncertainties in Europe.  Hopefully these effects will be minimized in 2012 and give some market stability to our domestic stock exchanges.

Long Term Race to Collectivism On Schedule -
“The Race to Centralize Education” - The press and media today tell us that our U.S. Dept. of Education (DOE) is spending $63.7 billion dollars serving 56 million students.   There is a lot of opposition to some of the GOP candidates who would like to do away with this unconstitutional sinkhole.

Back Pain Is Good - In an attempt to give equal time to both sides of the safety issue, I went to a symposium on industrial safety titled “Quit your bellyaching – a new perspective on job safety.  The symposium was held at the Marquis de Sade Institute for Industrial Safety and Health.  The symposium was sponsored by Zombie Pharmaceuticals Corporation.

Christmas And Coal - It’s not just black lumps in christmas stockings -  Talk about Christmas and coal and you naturally think of bad kids getting a lump of coal in their Christmas stocking.  However, there is a lot of coal to be found around the holidays and you might find some coal (in a different form) under your Christmas tree.

Guns Of The American Mining Camp - Watch any western worth its salt, and you will see Colt Peacemakers and Winchester lever action rifles.  But were these the guns of the mining camps?  Not as much as you think.

Ball Clay - Rarer And More Important Than You Think  - Mention Tennessee No. 10 or Kentucky No. 4 and someone may think you are talking about a handcrafted whisky or bourbon.  Unfortunately, it is nothing so interesting.  It’s a type of ball clay.  Yet, you probably have more use for Tennessee ball clay than you would a Tennessee sipping whisky.

Google Earth and Mining Maps - Most of us have probably seen Google Earth™ and have taken tours around the world looking at land and oceans.  You can fly anywhere to view satellite imagery, maps, terrain, 3D buildings, galaxies in outer space, and the depths of the ocean. If you find a place you want to return to you can set a Placemark - such as for your favorite hunting or vacation spots.
