Headlining News
AUGUST/SEPTEMBER 2010

Can Coal Power Fuel Cells? - With the current administration’s constant attacks on coal powered electricity, many are asking if there is any way to turn coal into an Obama approved clean energy.  The most likely way is to use it in fuel cells, a technology that began to power spacecraft in the 1960s, but is looking more attractive in down-to-earth applications.

Push Back Can Work - There is good news and bad news for the mining industry.  The bad news is that many environmentalists still insist the industry is the destroyer of planets.  The good news is that a mining company with a good PR campaign can turn opinion around.

Copper/Gold/Fish/Water: Keeping Alaskan Debate Alive - Controversy can breed contempt or compromise, yet one may hope the former leads to the latter. Such is the ongoing situation with the proposed Pebble mine project (the Pebble Partnership) in SW Alaska, for years continually suggested as a battle between copper/gold exploration and the safety of clean water and abundant fisheries—a basic “either/or” concept.

Canadian Stock Exchanges - Summer heat has been prevalent all over Canada providing lots of good weather and working conditions for field exploration parties from sea to sea and to the far reaches of our Arctic tundra.
Original Sixteen-To-One Mine Looks at Ground Penetrating Radar - With record gold prices, the Original 16 to 1 mine management sees a great future for its operations.  It should know.
Are We Blind to the Ecological Dangers of Ethanol? - The oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico has politicians once again looking for “renewable energy sources.”  High on the list is ethanol because politicians think it will immediately replace gasoline.
Mountain Charley - “Transgender” rights seem to be the latest politically correct issue.  However, transgender issues aren’t new.  It seems that there were more women posing as men during the Western gold rush than many thought.  One such case was that of Mountain Charley, who hid her gender for thirteen years in the gold fields.
Mining Affairs Forum - Would anyone disagree that our federal government barely resembles the limited one our forefathers gave us?
Productivity and Safety, Not Mutually Exclusive at Coal Operations - “We can be safe or productive, not both.”  Unfortunately, that has been the attitude of some mine management for years.  In their minds, the more effort spent on safety, the less on producing.  That is an idea that has been proven false by Peabody’s coal operations in Powder River, Wyoming.
